Behind the Scenes: Q&A with Ambra Health Product Manager, Katie Puhala

A recent interview between Rebecca Schankerman, Ambra Health Marketing Associate, and Katie Puhala, Ambra Health Product Manager. This interview includes details about the Product team at Ambra, Katie’s day-to-day responsibilities, and her quarantine hobbies!

Rebecca: How did you first learn about Ambra and what drew you to apply?

Katie Puhala

Katie: I actually came across a Professional Services Analyst position on my university career site. Turns out we have a few Colgate Alumni at Ambra, including our VP of Services, Alex McFerran. When I started my job search, I knew I wanted a customer facing role that allowed me to leverage some of my more technical skills I had developed during school. The Professional Services Analyst role offered that opportunity. I ultimately transitioned to the Product Team after I was able to grow my Ambra Product knowledge during my time deploying customers and working on the Support Desk.

Rebecca: What does a typical day as a Product Manager look like?

Katie: Every day truly is different, which is what I love about it! On any given day, I am in contact with probably every department at Ambra from Engineering to Customer Success to Business Development and everything in between. Most commonly, I work with our Professional Services and Customer Success teams to gather customer feature requirements so that I am able to then work with the Engineering team to develop those features.

Rebecca: If you could tell someone one unique thing about your day-to-day job in Product at Ambra, what would it be?

Katie: Since Ambra’s Product Team is on the leaner side, I get to play many different roles outside of a traditional Product Manager role. Ambra also has a very flat structure which allows me to interface and collaborate with people like our CTO and CEA on a weekly basis.

Rebecca: Where do you expect the Product team at Ambra to go in the next 2-5 years?

Katie: I expect us to continue to expand our team to meet Ambra’s growing product requirements. As we explore new workflows and tooling with our growing customer base, we will need more resources to keep up with the demand and maintain our agile methodology. Though I think we ultimately will start to have more traditional Product roles as we grow, I know it is important to our team and Ambra as a whole to maintain the flexibility and creativity we have today.

Rebecca: In 3 words, how would you describe your job?

Katie: You probably mean 3 separate words, but the first thing that comes to mind is “A balancing act!”

Rebecca: During quarantine, were there any fun hobbies or activities you picked up?

Katie: I had always been a fan of puzzles, but had not spent much time on any in quite some time. Quarantine gave me the excuse I needed to purchase several, including my favorite, which was of Baby Yoda (The Child) from The Mandalorian. I also attempted my first cross-stitch. I only ended up with a couple of needle pricks so I’d call it a success!

Rebecca: Any final words you would like to add about working for Ambra?

Katie: My favorite part about working at Ambra are my coworkers. It is such a privilege to be able to work with such talented, motivated and passionate people at Ambra!
