Preventing Radiation Exposure with Image Sharing

Overexposure to radiation is one of the main concerns in imaging today.  As wonderful as imaging can be for improving care, if overused, it can cause great harm.

At DICOM Grid, we have been following this trend closely and appreciate newly released information about this topic.  Most recently, we have seen some ways imaging can be applied strategically to improve accuracy in image and treatment delivery.  By using imaging to target biopsies in detecting prostate cancer, diagnosis was improved and radiation exposure was curtailed.  A win-win!

More fundamentally though, we have been tracking the evolution of strategic imaging with great interest.  Sharing imagery more easily is as critical as understanding imaging as not just the domain of the radiologist, but truly a critical part of integrated care.

Once we begin looking beyond the silos in medical treatment, we are going to start seeing creative mashups of specialties and skill sets that will make everyone healthier.
